Little owl

Little owl (E), Athene noctua, 25 cm

This small, stumpy owl with bright yellow eyes and white eyebrows prefers to live on agricultural land with copses and gnarled trees. It hunts mice and other small animals, even during the day, and remains in the same place, year round. The young establish themselves in the nest’s immediate surroundings.
