Description
Northern wheatear, Oenanthe oenanthe, 14 cm
This songbird nests in rabbit warrens in the dunes and heathland, but spends the winters on the savannahs of Africa. To get there it travels up to 10,000 km, more than any other song bird. The grassing over of heathland has led to a dramatic reduction in numbers.
