Offering bowl

During the pre-dynastic period, Egyptian potters clearly relished creating all manner of intriguingly shaped platters, bowls and pitchers most of which were based on animal figures. This unique bowl which dates back to the transition from the first to the second Naqada period seems to have been inspired by the hieroglyph for ‘bringing’. It leans forward as if offering its contents. It was probably used as an offering bowl at a sanctuary or in a tomb.
