The world-famous statue of the Greek goddess Aphrodite is considered a symbol of eternal beauty. We know it as the Venus de Milo, or the Aphrodite of Milos, referring to the Greek island where it was found in 1820. The artwork was probably created around 130 BC and is generally attributed to the sculptor Alexandros of Antioch. He used the famous white Parian marble, which in antiquity was renowned for its exceptional purity. Although the statue became famous because of its missing arms, this imperfection only enhances its mysterious beauty and timeless appeal.
