Egyptian god who protected the dead

Anubis, often depicted as a jackal or as a man with a jackal’s head, is the Egyptian god who protected the dead, guarded mummies, and guided souls to the afterlife.
Anubis played a crucial role in the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians; his images have been found frequently in tombs and on papyrus scrolls.
He is usually depicted in black, which refers to the fertile soil of the Nile River and the discoloration of mummified bodies.
