3 October 2024

During the last year of Magritte’s life, the renowned gallery owner Alexandre Iolas asked him whether he had ever considered making sculptures. A few weeks later, Magritte showed Iolas three sketches he had detailed with accurate dimensioning for a sculpture called Megalomania. It was a 3D version of the painting La Folie des Grandeurs from 1962. (PA28MAG – h. 10 cm.)

Venus, Roman ca. 100 AD – Collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum Los Angeles. The distinctive hairstyle and diadem identify this small head as an image of Venus. (ROM02 – 9,5 cm.)
