Purrquoise Cat – Chinese Reproduction

11 March 2026

Discover the charm of the cat Purrquoise, an originally Chinese porcelain cat from the 18th century. This beautiful figurine is finished in a radiant turquoise and may have served as an incense burner. The cat was fitted with glossy glass eyes in France and placed on a gilded bronze stool with a richly decorated cushion. The stool of this replica is also gilded! It is said that Purrquoise was part of the collection of the Marquise de Pompadour.

Developed in collaboration with the J. Paul Getty Museum USA / J. Paul Getty Trust. The museum gave this originally Chinese cat its fitting name, Purrquoise. (CH07, h. 15 cm.)
